OMT's antibody platform has freedom to operate and broad patent protection.
OMT has developed a new genetic engineering approach using transgenic rats. The technology provides partners with both patent-based exclusivity and freedom to operate.
The genetic engineering of mice and rabbits (including artificial immunoglobulin loci, inactivation of endogenous antibody production, and generation of human antibodies), and the use of antibodies from these animals are subject to a large number of issued patents and filed patent applications from companies and academic institutions. These patent estates limit the freedom of new antibody platforms based on genetically engineered animals.
OMT has issued and pending patents covering its platform technology, including the company's animals, methods, transgenes used to make the animals, and antibodies and novel immunoglobulin compositions from the animals. The company also has a worldwide license from Sangamo BioSciences, Inc. for the use of ZFN-mediated inactivation of immunoglobulin genes.
